Iedereen die zichzelf ook maar een beetje als sportinfluencer ziet, moet er één voltooid hebben: een Hyrox. Acht kilometer rennen, de skiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpees, roeien, farmers carry, lunges en wall balls – kortom, een verschrikkelijk zware workout. Al helemaal als je niet kunt horen of zien. De vader van Kate is doof en blind, en voltooit samen met zijn dochter een Hyrox. En dat vinden anderen heel indrukwekkend.
1. Eén ding mag duidelijk zijn: de vader van Kate (hy)rockt.
@kateelizabethpt On Thursday, myself and my Dad, who is both blind and deaf (also aged 61) took part in a Hyrox mixed doubles to raise money for @Retina UK, a charity that support individuals with inherited sight loss. Over the last few months my Dad has worked tirelessly to prepare for this race, whether that be running on the treadmill and lifting weights at home in our garage or coming to see me at work to get some valuable Hyrox specific training in. I had every faith in him to complete the race. But as we began, self doubt definitely began to creep in for him. By the time we got to the burpees I could see that he was really struggling. Hyrox is a tough sport for anybody without any disabilities, so for my Dad it was even more so. It took a lot of dedication (almost 80m of burpee broad jumps, thanks Dad 🤣) and encouragement to get us over that finishing line, and I’d be lying if I said that coordinating the race and keeping things moving in the right direction wasn’t a challenge. That being said, we ended up smashing our target time of 2 hours by 7 minutes and in summary, I have never been prouder of my Dad than I was on Thursday. We’ve made memories to last a lifetime. I’ve also got to say a huge thank you for all of the wonderful support. Whether that be our family and friends who cheered for us so loudly on the day, those who have supported us over social media, all of the other athletes on the course with their kind words of encouragement or finally the incredible @HYROXUK team who we couldn’t of done this without. 4. Ook Kate heeft de Hyrox voltooid, en krijgt daar een staande ovatie voor.
5. Zij en haar vader motiveren anderen om ook aan deze zware opgave te beginnen.
6. Want zelfs zonder deze beperkingen is een Hyrox geen makkelijke workout.
7. Je zou verwachten dat zweet het enige is dat vloeit, maar niets is minder waar.
